Do It Anyway

I was dreading last night’s WOD. It was a strength night – squats and deadlifts. Those are usually two of my favorites. Lately, not so much. My crossfit, mad dog, crazy freak mojo is missing.

So I texted Trisha. Because we all know she has an abundance of crossfit, mad dog, crazy freak mojo! And she offered to share! T is generous like that. She said something like “Just show up and do what you can and be good with that.”

I’m so glad I did. I didn’t set any records. Didn’t put a new PR on the board. So what? I still got a great strength workout. I encouraged some freaks and received some encouragement right back. For me, that’s what it’s all about anyway.

I just love how lessons are there – in the box and in our life –  to be learned whenever we are ready to experience them!

I have to tell you something. This is the first day since we started LEAN into Summer that I’ve actually felt almost thin. Why? Is it because I’m not paying attention to my food? I don’t think so. I’ve been squeaky clean – just like the rest of you guys. I really think it’s been due to stress, lack of sleep, and some hormonal changes that my body seems to think I’m “mature” enough to handle. (With all the crying and whining going on, I beg to differ!)

I share that with you because a) I’m a pretty transparent kind of gal; and b) It serves to remind us that there are many factors at play in our lives which affect our outcomes. And while we don’t always (or ever, really) have control over all that is going on in and around us, we do have the ability to make choices that impact our well being.
Choose to rest. Rest is healing. Don’t believe me? Go without it for a while! Choose to think positively. I’m currently working on this affirmation: “I am balanced and peaceful in all changes of cycles, and I bless my body with love.” Will that keep me from turning 49 later this year? I doubt it. Will it help me celebrate my life and accept myself exactly the way I am? It certainly can’t hurt!
Keep moving. It felt so great to be back in the box tonight. And I even had energy to add some numbers to my 3,000 challenge totals! Stay connected. I can guarantee I would not have put anything heavy over my head if I hadn’t been at the box with some of you guys and gals! We’re so much better together than on our own!
Do something fun and new! Find a new recipe. Buy yourself that great pair of red sandals you’ve been eyeing. Plan a ridiculously long bide ride. Register for a Life Coach Training Course. Go running in your bikini. (OK. I really don’t recommend that one, but Kara Browne actually saw someone doing that in downtown Waxahachie this afternoon!)
Laugh!!!!! I recommend comedian Brian Reagan’s I Walked on the Moon routine. No matter how many times I watch it, I laugh harder and louder than the time before. Good, clean fun!
Be grateful. Let those special folks in your life know how much they mean to you. Infuse every situation with compassion. Celebrate living!

I’m getting carried away! I think you get the point. Eating clean and working hard at the box is important. AND, as much as I might hate to admit it, there might just be more to life than food and CrossFit. 🙂
